FOLLAND SPORTS 2

WEYMOUTH Reserves’ manager Bradley Asagba was left to lament a “very, very poor performance” during his side’s 2-0 Sydenhams Wessex Division One defeat to Folland Sports at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Asagba also criticised himself in his analysis of the game, labelling the match as “probably the worst performance” of his tenure.

After a goalless first half, Folland took all three points after a 68th minute Luke King own goal and a Lincoln McLean strike.

A disappointed Asagba told Echosport the game was “a bad day at the office”.

He said: “It was a very, very poor performance from us and probably the worst performance of my tenure. It was just one of those days where for some reason it didn’t click and we didn’t get going.

“When you’re having a bad day the ball might run for you and you can get a foothold in the game, but it didn’t. The 50-50 stuff didn’t go our way.

“It’s just one of those where we have to put it down as a bad day at the office and move on.”

Weymouth had large periods of possession against Folland, who aimed to soak up the Terras’ pressure and Asagba felt his side were twice undone on the counter.

“The first one was a counter attack in the second half. We were camped in their half and they absorbed the pressure really well. They crossed the ball and it went off Luke into the net.

“The second was 15 minutes later and was again a counter attack. We have had three or four challenges to win the ball and they have escaped and fed the forward in.

“He’s pulled the ball across and it was slotted in for 2-0. They had a plan to contain us and it worked and they hit us on the break. You have those days in football,” he said.

Asked what went wrong, Asagba was unsure said his backroom team will go and assess the game.

He said: “There’s no reason why we were that bad. We have to suck it up. We’ll analyse the negatives. The players have to move on to the next game.

“The unforced errors for us as a team were very, very high. The positives are that we got 90 minutes into our legs.

“From my perspective as a manager I will dwell on it because it’s my responsibility. It’s done now and we really have to focus on the next game where three points are imperative.”

Asagba’s men next face Ringwood Town at home on Saturday.
