CHICKERELL UNITED 1

CHICKERELL United manager Shaun Murphy feels the Chickens’ start to the season “seems to be going really well” after their 1-0 win away at Beaminster in the Dorset Senior League.

The victory was Chickerell’s second win in two games and was secured in the 15th minute through a Matthew Harvey goal.

But Murphy told Echosport his side had to “dig really deep” to keep a “physical” Beaminster side at bay.

“It seems to be going really well if I’m honest. They were a very big physical side, not a bad side – I think they will cause teams a few problems this year.

“First half we were very good, probably the better side. We did have a couple of goals chalked off.

“But the goal we scored was five or six one-touch passes, which was really good football and what we want to promote from the side this year,” he said.

“Second half they changed their formation and came at us. We had to dig really deep. The defence was superb and our keeper made a great save towards the end of the game to keep it at 1-0.

“I didn’t know anything about Beaminster. We just played the same football we have been playing all season, keeping the ball and lots of effort and commitment.

“We’ve had players missing but the players that have come in have done well. It’s a nice headache to have to be honest,” he added.

And Murphy feels his team will get “better and stronger” as the season endures.

“The week before against Portland we missed a few chances, but it’s going really well. I can’t ask for any more if I’m honest, it’s really pleasing.

“I think we will get better and stronger as it goes on. We’ve had a really fantastic start,” he said.
