DORSET karting star Oakley Pryer has won a ticket to drive at the Le Mans Karting International after winning the 2017 X30 South West Championships at Dunkeswell.

Pryer’s win was his second in a year at the track, owned by 1992 Formula One world champion Nigel Mansell, and he is set to race at Le Mans from October 9-15.

The Gryphon School ace will have to participate in practice and qualifying in a bid to make the final.

Pryer, 15, has enjoyed superb recent success, which began with a win in the MiniMax English Championship at Shenington.

Racing in the Junior Rotax category, he then claimed the 2016 South West Championship title at Dunkeswell and the 2016 Wessex Championships at Clay Pigeon Raceway before his latest triumph in the X30 class.

Pryer also has multiple wins on various tracks across the UK as he seeks to continue his dream to become a Formula One driver and ambition to race across Europe.

Speaking to Echosport about his feats, Pryer’s mother Gemma said the speedster had “raced so well” to get into Le Mans.

She said: “His dedication and his passion for it shows he is a racer through and through. He’s worked so hard and driven so well.

“It’s every boy’s dream to be a Formula One driver. I’m so proud of him for all the big wins he’s had.”
