DORCHESTER Town chairman Matt Lucas insists his club “won’t be rushed” into making a quick managerial appointment.

The Magpies have been without a permanent boss since the resignation of Craig Laird, with his then number two Trevor Senior filling in on an interim basis before Laird’s successor is chosen.

Lucas told Echosport that a shortlist has been drawn up, with interviews taking place all week.

He said: “We have shortlisted and the panel from the board are now meeting candidates. We met some managers on Wednesday night and we’re going to be interviewing for the rest of this week.

“Then hopefully we’ll be in a position where we know a little bit more by the middle of next week.”

Lucas admitted the board is “pleased” with the standard of applicants, with some having managerial experience of the tier above the Magpies’ present league.

“We have been pleased with the standard of candidates that have come forward and we’re excited about the chats and interviews that we’re having.

“We’ve spoken to people with experience of the league we’re in now and above.

“We’re very aware as a board how important this next manager’s appointment is. We’re being very thorough in our approach to make the right appointment for Dorchester Town Football Club,” he said.

But Lucas stressed the need to make the “right decisions” given the club’s situation, which sees them languishing in 22nd place having lost their last five league games.

He said: “We need to make the right appointment and we won’t be rushed into that. In a situation like this, where we are at the moment on the pitch, we need to make sure that what decisions are made are the right decisions.”
