SHERBORNE’S Thomas Plumb finished eighth in the Telegraph Vitality Junior Golf Championship, which was won by Hertfordshire’s Max Hopkins.

Plumb carded 76 in the third round to finish at +9 for the championship, held in Portugal at Quinta do Lago.

The youngster had been in sixth going into the third and final round but fell back to eighth at the tournament on the Algarve.

Tournament winner Hopkins had been level pegging with James Fox but took the lead after the latter dropped three shots following trouble in the trees.

Meanwhile, the girls’ event was won by Annabel Fuller in emphatic style by 13 strokes after finishing on -1 after carding 70 in the last round, with nearest rival Lily May Humphries finishing on +12.

The 54-hole stroke play championship is in its 33rd year and was hailed by 2014 European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley as one of junior golf’s Majors.
