WEYMOUTH defender Dane James has returned to his parent club from a loan spell with Bridport.

James had extended an initial one-month loan with the Bees but boss Adam Fricker has decided to end the agreement early.

Speaking to Echosport, Fricker felt James needed more game time after the comeback from injury of right-back Kameron Andrews and his subsequent good form.

He said: “We took the decision to speak to Weymouth and to be honest it came off the back of Kameron coming back.

“There was a little bit of a drop-off in form from Dane’s perspective. We felt for all concerned that it was probably best for him to go back to Weymouth.”

But Fricker was satisfied in general in the Bees’ young players, singling out Andrews for praise after his recent injury troubles.

He said: “Kameron, Leighton Thomas, Dec Cornish and Braeden Symes – we’re really pleased with the young players.

“On paper we’ve got a young side, the majority of the lads are under 25, but Kam’s been excellent for us since his return from injury.”

Fricker also revealed that he was in frequent discussion with reserves’ manager Shaun Annetts and third team boss Mark Scadding regarding the youngsters’ form.

“The balance is right,” he said. “They need to have experienced players around them in the tough times as well.

“We talk to Shaun regularly and we train with the reserves. You have your Riley Weedons and Sam Handyside who has been involved with us a few times this season.

“We look at the third team as well, they’re doing very well in their league. We need to get the ones doing well into the reserves,” he added.

Asked whether there were opportunities for in-form young players to progress through the club’s ranks, Fricker felt it was incumbent upon the respective managers to communicate that to the players.

He said: “That’s down to the managers. We need to talk to each other. We (also) talk about who’s not doing well from my perspective that needs minutes and to get confidence back.”
