CHARLIE Davis is pleased with how the first half to the season has gone for Weymouth as the Terras sit third in the table with 44 points.
Davis has scored three goals this season, against King’s Lynn and Hitchin Town in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division and against Chippenham Town in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.
The midfielder said: “I think it has gone really well, if you compare it to last season I think we are in a lot stronger position as the league suggests.”
He admits he feels that his side’s position is false as Hereford and Slough can overtake the Terras with their games in hand but says he would rather have the points on the board.
Sitting third in the table one game shy of the halfway mark, Davis says the squad have not spoken about where they want to finish.
Davis said: “It has not been spoken but I think everyone has got the same aim. I don’t think we have to sit down and speak about what it is that we are trying to do or what it is we want to do. I think everyone bought into what the boss and all the coaching staff want to do this year.
“I think without saying it we know where we want to be and what we want to achieve and what we have got to do to achieve that.”
He explained: “We are not a club that can go and buy the league, we have got to do it by working hard and getting the right results and being tactful in the games that we play.
“It is not the finished article by any means.”
The Terras’ most recent match was a 1-0 home win against Chesham United where Abdulai Baggie scored the winner on 19 minutes, before Mark Cooper was sent off nine minutes later.
Davis said: “It was one of the toughest games so far this season. We said at half-time that it was going to be horrible but boss Mark Molesley said we need to enjoy those moments.
“We need to enjoy it being horrible and working for each other because it does feel so much better when you put all that work in and it comes off.”
The morale within the Terras is good at the moment as they are on a run of form that has seen them claim five wins and a draw in their last seven matches in all competitions.
Davis explains: “The lads do quite a lot together as well, I think everyone is driving towards the same goal and I think we have got a good balance between having a laugh and being as professional as we can.”
“I think the whole energy around the club and what people are trying to do is a lot brighter. It is very enjoyable to be around.”
When looking back at the season so far Davis says: “I think the whole first half to the season has been a big highlight.”
*Weymouth’s recently postponed matches against Dunstable Town and Royston Town have been rescheduled for January 23 and 30 respectively.
