DORCHESTER Town full-back Kyle Egan admitted he was “buzzing” to have scored for the Magpies in their 2-2 Ridgeway derby draw with Weymouth.

Exeter City loanee Egan, 19, came up with his second goal of the season after netting a late leveller against Chesham United, sparking his side’s comeback at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Speaking to Echosport after the encounter, Egan conceded he was surprised to get the chance, with the ball travelling through Sam Lanahan’s legs on its way to the teenager.

He said: “It was my first (derby) and I thought Lanners was going to score but it went through his legs. It fell to me and I’ve luckily slotted it past the keeps, I was buzzing.

“Being the first goal and we were 2-0 down, we were trying to get the ball back and get another one.

“All the lads showed great character, kicking against the wind in the second half it was definitely tough for us and we’re absolutely over the moon with the result.”

Asked how his goal against Weymouth compared to his strike against the Generals, Egan felt netting in the derby was more significant given the “hype” surrounding the game.

He said: “The one with Chesham didn’t mean as much. With the all the hype in this game this was a much bigger place to score.

“I was glad I scored and was

buzzing with it.”

Egan was also proud of his team-mates for showing “real heart” with the odds stacked against them in the second half.

He said: “Coming out in the second half with the wind blowing against us, with the crowd and then going 2-0 down it was a really uphill battle.

“The conditions tested us but all the lads dug in, showed real heart and it was great from all of us, we all performed well.

“We had two big results, with a minor setback last week, but hopefully this will set us on the right road again now.”

With Egan’s loan deal coming to an end at the beginning of January, the right-back insisted he would “love to extend” his stay with the Magpies.

He said: “We’re really starting to come together now. With Tommo (Steve Thompson, manager), we’re working on the points he’s said.

“It’s a really good place to be and I’d love to extend it. I’m just trying to enjoy playing, whether it’s here, Exeter under-23s or Exeter first-team.

“Just enjoy my football, do the best I can and help whatever team I’m playing for out.”

Commenting on the Magpies’ chances of securing another deal for Egan, boss Thompson said he was “in talks” with Exeter City under-23s’ coach Matt Taylor.

He said: “I am in talks with Matt and I’m hoping that we can get something done. It’s not just up to me. If it was up to me only, it would have been done.

“But there’s three parties involved and obviously we have to try and sort that out.

“Kyle did really well (against Weymouth). He popped up with another important goal – he got one against Chesham – to get us back in the game.”
