CRAIG Herrod handed Bridport defeat in the 87th minute as the Bees lost at the home of runaway league champions Street in the Toolstation Western Premier Division.

In a match where defences were on top and chances hard to come by, Herrod’s late run, before squeezing his shot past Bridport goalkeeper Jason Hutchings was enough to be the difference between the two sides.

It was a good contest with the teams closely matched and both sides put in a good performance.

Neither goalkeeper had many saves to make but Ed Butcher provoked the biggest chance for Bridport in the first half when he broke through but could not manage to get enough power in his shot.

Despite few chances for either side, the league leaders managed to crack the Bees in the 87th minute, when Herrod cut in from the left-hand side and cut across before shooting past an unsighted Hutchings to seal the late win.

Bridport manager Adam Fricker said: “From a performance perspective I was really impressed, the lads put in a great shift. It was our third game in five days playing against the champions of the league.

“It was always going to be a tough ask.

“For 87 minutes, we more than matched them. it was just disappointing that we conceded the goal at the end, but no criticising the players at all. They were excellent with how they adapted themselves.”

Bridport host Chipping Sodbury Town tomorrow (8pm).
