Martinstown in Bere test

MARTINSTOWN and Bere Regis will contest this year’s Knockout Cup final.

Martinstown (151-6) will be making their second successive appearance in the showpiece, after defeat to Herrison Youth in last year’s final, thanks to a 42-run victory over Dewlish (109-5) in the semi-finals.

Rob Waite weighed in with an unbeaten 52 for the victors, as did T Hewlish for the beaten semi-finalists.

The other last four clash saw Martinstown Seconds (119 all out) miss out on a date with the first string on July 17 as they lost out to Bere Regis (165-5), whose Pete Macklin plundered 71 not out.

Dewlish (135-5) though, recovered from their cup disappointment to beat Dorchester Youth (126-5) in Division One, despite the efforts of Joe Power (3-18).

Alfie Fitzgerald’s century saw Hazelbury Bryan (179-6) close in on the Division Two title, and promotion to the top tier, with victory over Winfrith (139-8). The in-form batsman finished on 106 not out before D Cleave (4-38) helped restrict Winfrith in the reply.

At the other end of the table, basement boys Puddletown Reserves suffered two defeats.

First, the Villagers (146-9) went down to Cattistock (182-7) before Charlton Down (137-7) recorded victory over the strugglers (101-5).

In Division Three, Frampton (131-3) claimed the spoils in a top of the table clash with Plush (128-6).

Frampton now lead the way, four points above second-placed Plush who have a game in hand.

Elsewhere, Martinstown Seconds (62-1) secured a comfortable win over Colliton Club (58 all out) while T Rooke starred for Churches United (186-6) in their triumph over Puddletown RFC (68-8).

The all-rounder hit 44 with the bat before returning figures of 5-15 with the ball.
