Luque leads WindowMan to summit

FC WINDOWMAN stormed back to the top of the Carpets Direct Weymouth Sunday League Premiership with a convincing 6-2 win over title-rivals Britannia.

On a bitterly-cold morning, some clinical finishing and superb goalkeeping from man-of-the-match Anthony Luque proved out to be the difference between the two sides in a keenly-contested match.

WindowMan are ahead of the Brit only on goal difference, but they also have three games in hand that could help them pull well clear of their challengers.

A point-blank save from Luque kept FC WindowMan on level terms in the early stages and the Weymouth side moved in front soon after when Sean Stewart converted Gaz Heseltine’s cut-back.

Luque thwarted Grant Chance before a mistake by his opposite number, Martin Rutland, allowed Window-Man to double their lead through Bobby Jones.

Wayne Day side-footed home from a quickly-taken corner but when Luque made a slight error in the Window-Man goal, fumbling Terry Oldrid’s free-kick, Chance pounced to pull a goal back.

The shot-stopper more than made up for it when denying Chance one-on-one and WindowMan proceeded to move clear through Heseltine’s cross-cum-shot, before the same player finished after Dan McDonald had been denied by Rutland.

Jones added another eight minutes from time but Brit had the final say as Stu Burley rifled a consolation high into the net from six yards.

Bottom-side Galaxy Windows stunned an over-confident Snookes side to claim a deserved share of the spoils and halt a run of seven successive league defeats.

Matt Ramsey put Galaxy in front when he hit a hopeful shot from 30 yards that sailed over a flat-footed Ian Bickerstaff and into the net.

Richard Marshallsay quickly responded for Snookes, causing problem after problem for the Galaxy back line, before finally teeing up Kieron Reeson, who smashed the ball past keeper Pete Cowne.

And Marshallsay gave Snookes the lead when he caught Cowne off his line with a left-footed drive from range.

Galaxy reclaimed parity on 75 minutes when a long clearance from Cowne was brought down exquisitely by Rich Limm and slotted past a stunned Bickerstaff.

The soft nature of the goal enraged Marshallsay so much that he left the field but Matt Croxson and Roberts only took five minutes to respond when a delightful through ball from the former allowed the latter to flick the ball over Cowne.

However, there was a sting in the tail as Limm scored a spectacular free-kick after Jamie Savage had been felled.

Bar 314 maintained their recent run of form as a first-half blitz of four goals helped them see off Moby Dick’s.

Striker Ethan Devaney took his tally to four goals in his last two games when he shot home after Moby failed to clear a corner, and then took advantage of another mix-up to slot home number two.

James Vincent blasted home the third as the home side failed to shut him down and he was gifted even more space to set his sights and score Bar’s fourth.

The half-time break seemed to do wonders for Moby Dick’s as they responded in the second period, and could have even snatched a point had they taken their chances.

Ian McDonald scored from the edge of the penalty area to give his side hope and an own goal from Mike Winter, who claimed he was fouled, looked as if it might spark a terrific fight-back.

However, Bar 314 held on to take all three points, thanks to another outstanding performance from centre-half Ray Wellman, who edged his battle with Moby striker Pete Bochonko.
