Hallett's horror after wonder goal

JIMMY Hallett scored a contender for goal of the season before being rushed to hospital after suffering a horrific injury.

The Moby Dick’s winger rounded at least four defenders to put his team 4-3 up against Galaxy Windows, and the match went on to finish 5-4 in his side’s favour despite them having to play out the final 10 minutes with just 10 men after Hallett suffered a dislocated ankle.

Moby’s Pete Bochonko bagged himself a hat-trick in a thrilling game at Redlands, with Michael Stone making up the home side’s tally.

Galaxy started the game brightly and raced into a two-goal lead, courtesy of a brace from James Corbin.

The home defence failed to deal with a long kick from visiting keeper Pete Cowne and Corbin was on hand to tuck home the opener.

The Portlanders’ midfielder followed that up with a cracking effort moments later, leaving the Moby gloveman rooted to the spot.

However, Bochonko converted a penalty to put Moby Dick’s back in the game before captain-for-the-day Stone headed in an equaliser that Cowne failed to keep out.

Bochonko fired home low into the bottom corner to complete the turnaround but Galaxy equalised when Nath Barber tucked home the loose ball after Corbin was denied his third of the morning.

Hallett’s mazy run and finish, from an acute angle, restored Moby’s lead midway through the second half before Jason Wellman inadvertently set up strike partner Bochonko to nod past Cowne and give the hosts, who also saw Dan Magee hit the woodwork, a two-goal cushion.

Matt Bird calmly slotted home another goal for Galaxy before Hallett dislocated his ankle when running through on goal – although no blame can be put on the challenge that led to the winger’s injury.

With no substitutes to bring on, Moby ended the game a man short, but held on to record a much-needed victory.

Meanwhile, depleted table-toppers FC WindowMan were held by Tuatara despite leading 2-0.

It was the threadbare WindowMan that started the brighter and they took a deserved lead on 15 minutes when Nick Abbot lobbed a loose ball goalwards and keeper Matt Newman could only watch as it dropped into an empty net.

WindowMan then doubled their lead when Bobby Jones finished from 12 yards.

However, a lapse in concentration from the restart left Tom Grattidge in acres of space and he made no mistake despite Adam Anstey’s efforts to clear off the line.

Tuatara introduced fresh legs and piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser. And they got it with 17 minutes to go.

Keeper Ant Luque played a calamitous pass to Anstey, Sam Roper intercepted and as the ball rolled loose Simon Meadows caught Luque stranded with a delightful lob from 25 yards.

The Britannia bounced back from their devastating loss to leaders WindowMan with an 11-0 drubbing of the Belvedere at the Piggery.

The league’s top scorers took almost half an hour to break down the Belve defence, opening the scoring in the 28th minute through Grant Chance.

Stu Burley found the net soon after and Chance was on hand again before the break, dribbling past three visiting defenders and slotting beyond the keeper to make it 3-0.

The second half was a different game with a free-flowing Brit attacking a tiring Belve outfit.

The lead was stretched to four almost immediately through Elliot Gould before further strikes from Burley, Terry Oldrid and Ant Carlile consolidated the rout.

Gould made it double figures in the 80th minute before Burley took his tally to five, tapping in for the Brit’s final goal moments before time.

Bar 314 continued their great run of form against a strong Snookes side, but they had to remain patient until the second half.

Both teams cancelled each other out in the opening 45 minutes but Bar upped a gear after the break and a great run by left-back James Palmer ended with him being scythed down in the penalty area.

James Vincent tucked away the resultant spot-kick and minutes later it was 2-0 when Bryn Lewis’ solo run ended with him curling home a wonderful shot.

Strike partner Ethan Devaney wrapped up the scoring with a brace, running through and rounding the goalkeeper for his first before tapping in his second and Bar 314’s fourth.
