Islanders have no fear of Rec

Portland United chief Stuart Heath believes there is “nothing to fear” ahead of tomorrow’s clash with unbeaten leaders Hamwor-thy Recreation (3pm).

The table-toppers visit Grove Corner without a single defeat in 22 Dorset Premier League fixtures.

However, the islanders ran them close in a League Cup tie back in November, forcing extra-time before Rec eventually prevailed 3-2.

And Heath, whose men also lost 3-0 in September’s league meeting between the two sides, is hoping it will be a case of third time lucky for the Blues.

He said: “It’s always a challenge when you play top of the league. They’re at the top for a reason but we’ve got nothing to fear.

“We’ve played them twice this season already and played well in both games. We were unlucky to lose and I felt we deserved results in both games. We’ll be looking to make sure we get a result this time.

“There’s no pressure on us so we’ve got to try and use that to our advantage and look to frustrate them.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how our younger players react because tomorrow’s game will be a step up for them.”

Another man hoping for a Portland victory tomorrow will be Chickerell United boss Brendon King, whose side lie eight points adrift of Rec but with three games in hand.

Heath added: “I’m sure he will be hoping we can get something from the game. If I had a preference I would rather see Chickerell or Hamworthy win the league this season as they have been the best footballing sides.

“One of those two will win it in my opinion and it will be whoever handles the pressure best and is the most consistent of the two.”

Heath has no fresh injury worries ahead of the game but continues to be without the services of keeper Nick Carroll and midfielder Liam Miles due to suspension.
