AFTER experiencing the most eventful week of his career, player-boss Ashley Vickers is eyeing a return to normality at Welling United tomorrow (3pm).

The 39-year-old has become a global sensation since apprehending a mankini-wearing streaker in Monday night’s 3-1 defeat at Havant & Waterlooville.

The video footage has received more than 725,000 hits but the only thing on Vickers’ mind right now is tomorrow’s trip to Park View Road – and the task of easing the Magpies’ relegation fears.

Vickers, who remains hopeful of seeing Monday’s red card overturned, told Echosport: “It’s a week I will never forget. It’s been unbelievable and I was even interviewed for an Australian radio station on Wednesday night.

“I think a few of the lads are considering buying mankinis as a joke but I’m just looking forward to getting back to the solace of the Football pitch tomorrow.

“I also want to get my red card rescinded and people say the FA are looking to do that, so hopefully common sense will prevail because we’ve got enough injuries and suspensions to worry about.”

Vickers and fellow defender Jake Smeeton are available for selection tomorrow but Kyle Critchell, who joined the other two men for an early bath on Monday, is suspended following the red card he received at Farnborough a fortnight ago.

With Jamie Frampton on loan at Wimborne Town and Doug Bergqvist (knee) still out injured, Gary Bowles could return to a defensive role after being pushed into midfield for the last two outings.

The county town chief added: “Gary has done ever so well in midfield but we will see what we decide. We can’t bring Jamie back, while Dougie is about a week away.”

On the plus side, 17-year-old Jamie Symes last night rubberstamped his return to the Avenue Stadium and goes straight into the squad for tomorrow's clash.

Dorchester were held to a 3-3 draw in their last Blue Square Bet South meeting with the Wings.

Looking ahead to the return fixture, Vickers added: “When they came here we should have got more than a point as we dominated the game.

“They appear to be much better at home so we will have to be ready for a battle, and then earn the right to play.”
