BEN Dickenson is set to enter negotiations with two Football League outfits after Dorchester Town accepted two “record” bids for the talented striker.

The 18-year-old has proved a major hit at the Avenue Stadium since arriving on a free transfer from Wessex Premier League high-fliers Christchurch last May.

One offer for the Magpies’ joint top-scorer, currently sidelined by an ankle injury, was rebuffed at the weekend but chairman Shaun Hearn has since agreed fees with two “fantastic clubs”.

The rising star has attracted interest from a host of clubs, including the likes of Fulham, Brighton, Burnley, Reading, Crystal Palace, MK Dons and AFC Wimbledon, but Hearn refused to shed much light on where the two bids came from.

He told Echosport: “We have agreed fees with two clubs and it’s down to the player to make a choice. I can’t name the two clubs but they are in the Football League.

“He is contracted to us until the end of next season but clubs have been watching him for some time and they know what he’s all about.

“We have given permission for two clubs to speak to Ben and they will talk to him imminently.

“I have spoken to Ben and we can’t stand in his way. Two fantastic clubs have come in for him and we have had no option but to accept their offers.

“Ben has surpassed everyone’s expectations this season. We hope he can sort something out and we wish him all the very best with his career.

“But until he has agreed terms, nothing is cast in stone. We will just see what happens.”

Echosport understands that the offers on the table could potentially reach six figures – providing certain add-ons are fulfilled.

Hearn remained tight-lipped but did state: “It will be a record transfer for the club if it goes through.

“There are add-ons involved and it’s a deal that could be very beneficial to the football club.”

The last two men sold by the Magpies were defender Gary Bowles, who joined AFC Bournemouth in a deal believed to be worth £15,000, and forward Chris Flood, who signed for Eastleigh in a four-figure move.

Meanwhile, two county town trialists starred as the reserves beat Poole Town 2-1 on Wednesday night.

Ex-Southampton Academy forward Aristotle de Carvalho, nicknamed Totti, and former Exeter City defender Jack Furzer both scored at the Avenue under the watchful eye of boss Alan Knight.

Dorchester’s first team travel to Eastbourne Borough tomorrow (3pm), looking to record a third straight win in Blue Square Bet South.
