WEYMOUTH winger Jamie Beasley has been sent out on loan in a bid to recapture the form that saw him terrorise rival defenders.

The 24-year-old was one of the Terras’ leading lights last season, after climbing six rungs on the non-League ladder following his move from Dorchester Borough, but has often been confined to the substitutes’ bench this term – making just six starts in all competitions.

In an attempt to improve his sharpness, Beasley will join lower-league Poole Town for at a least a month and could make his Dolphins debut at the weekend.

Weymouth manager Brendon King said: “Jamie is going on loan to Poole. He might be there for longer than a month but we will have a call-back option on him.

“Hopefully it will be sorted out in time for him to be available for their game on Saturday.

“He needs games as he’s not played a lot of football this season.

“He was injured at the start of the season with a broken hand and then he got a 35-day ban for a silly red card in a five-a-side competition.

“That cost him his place but he has learnt from it.”

King went on to add: “We have had some decent results this season, we’ve brought in the likes of Craig Duff and Sam Malsom, and Jamie’s found it difficult to break into the side.

“It’s important for him to go and get some minutes and get some games under his belt.

“The deal suits him, it suits us and it suits Poole. They have been asking to take him for the past month but I felt that I couldn’t let him go before now.

“It’s imperative that he goes there and works hard to regain his sharpness.

“He burst onto the scene last season and was unplayable at times. It’s important that he recaptures that form and we get him flying again.”

Meanwhile, the Terras are still awaiting news on the possibility of extending Byron Napper’s stay at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The Crawley Town loanee is due to return to his parent club in 10 days’ time.

King, whose side visit Eves-ham on Sunday (3pm), said: “He has a meeting with Steve Evans today so hopefully we will have more news later in the week.”

Napper’s immediate future could also determine whether Weymouth agree a new loan deal for AFC Totton midfielder James Coutts.

“It all comes down to finances and what we can afford,” added King. “In an ideal world I would have 20-odd players in my squad but we have to be sensible and go with what we can afford.”
