Magpies foiled by the freeze

NO GO: Phil Simkin at a frozen Avenue Stadium NO GO: Phil Simkin at a frozen Avenue Stadium

PHIL Simkin’s frustration was clear to see after the Magpies suffered a second successive postponement at the weekend.

Saturday’s home clash with Chelmsford City fell victim to the freezing conditions just seven days after a similar outcome at Blue Square Bet South leaders Woking.

And with no game scheduled for this Saturday, the upcoming visit of Havant & Waterlooville on February 25 will be Dorch-ester’s first outing since the 1-1 draw with Dover some 23 days ago.

The county town assistant said: “It’s difficult because we are now going to go five weeks without a game.

“It’s another game gone by where we weren’t able to get any use out of the loan players but fortunately we do have Tom Nichols for another month and Max Worsfold until the end of the season, which is a blessing.

“It’s still very frustrating though. We thought we had got over the worst of it weather-wise but it has affected everyone.

“We had a light training session instead but we couldn’t do too much as we mainly had to do it on the grass next door to the pitch.

“We had a behind-closed-doors friendly last Tuesday and we may look to have another one this Tuesday.”

The Magpies have played more games than anyone else in the division, which could work in their fav-our given the fact that almost everyone has been hit by the recent cold snap.

Simkin added: “You can look at it in lots of ways and it does mean that other teams are going to have to play an awful lot of games in a short space of time.”

* Dorchester Town Reserves were also without a game at the weekend after their trip to AFC Totton was called off.
