GEORGE Rolls admits he is keen to help crisis-club Kettering Town but insists he has no plans to purchase the Blue Square Bet Premier strugglers.

The Cambridge-based businessman, who told fans early last month that he will be resuming the role of Terras’ chairman, was in the Nene Park crowd on Wednesday night as the Poppies drew 1-1 with Coventry City in a friendly clash that helped raise more than £6,000 for the cash-strapped outfit.

However, Rolls, whose wife Amanda is the majority shareholder at the Bob Lucas Stadium, has played down the significance of his appearance at the Northampton-shire venue.

Speaking to Echosport, he said: “They need advice at Kettering and they are in a situation that Weymouth were in a few years ago.

“If I can help any football club in terms of advice or the processes that need to happen to safeguard their future then I will do so.

“Quite clearly FA rules state that you can’t be involved at two clubs. They aren’t worried about you having chit-chat to try and help other clubs out.

“Unfortunately, some people make things up and put two and two together and don’t always come up with four.

“At this present moment there is nothing happening at Kettering.”
