WEEK nine of the ‘Go Spike’ Beach Volleyball League saw a mad scramble to get into the top-eight ranking positions to qualify for next week’s play-off competition.

However, the evening pretty much followed the form book with Rob Semmence and Dom Cosserat running out winners, beating Jules Stout and Dave James 21-17 in the final.

Earlier in the evening, Semmence and Cosserat had lost to Stout and James in the group matches but by the time of the final, the dynamic duo’s superior fitness seemed to carry them through to another series win.

Terry Oldrid and Chloe Oldrid also confirmed their place in the top eight by reaching the semi finals.

In the B Series, Nigel Coelho and Carl Neale were the triumphant pair despite this being their first tournament of the season. In the final they beat Carlos Figurerio and Martin O’Neill.

Earlier in the evening, the under-16s completed their coaching course with a tournament which was won by Liam Tewkesbury and Becky Raybold. The tournament showed the great future potential for Beach Volleyball in Weymouth.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum, Ryan Stout headed out to Greece this week to prepare for the Under-19 World Championships. Last weekend he competed in the Volleyball England beach Tour event and for the second time this season finished in ninth place.

A Series Rankings: 1 Dom Cosserat 43, 2 Rob Semmence 40, 3 Elliott Sawyer 27, 4 Jules Stout 24, 5 Ryan Stout 18, 6 Mike Powell 16, 7 Craig Bishop 14, 8= Terry Oldrid, Chloe Oldrid 14, 10 Jaffa Williams, 11= Ashley Smith, Adam James 8.
