SCOTT Walker has been officially unveiled as Weymouth’s new captain for the forthcoming campaign.

The ex-Truro City winger has donned the armband for much of pre-season and boss Brendon King reckons his conduct both on and off the pitch will inspire those around him.

He told Echosport: “I have decided to give Scott the captaincy and it is something he is very happy with.

“I have been really pleased with his all-round contribution, he speaks very well and is a great role model for the younger lads too.

“Unfortunately, he sustained a bit of a knock last weekend against Dorchester Town so whether he plays this afternoon at Tiverton Town (3pm) we will just have to wait and see.

“He has a bruised foot and at the end of the day with just over a week to go until our opening game against Kettering Town, we have to be sensible.”

The Terras currently have an unbeaten record this pre-season and King is keen for the momentum to continue.

He added: “Tiverton are a decent side with some decent players so it will be a good workout for us and hopefully we can keep the good habits going.

“Obviously we have half an eye on next weekend now and the side we want to start the season with but with a few knocks around like Scott’s, we certainly won’t be risking anyone.

“As long as we put on another good performance and come through it unscathed I will be happy.”
