Woking will win the title says Dorchester boss

By Ky Capel »

ALAN Knight has backed Woking to lift the Blue Square Bet South title, insisting tomorrow’s opponents are “the best side in the league”.

Although confident the table-topping Cards will go on to clinch their place in non-League’s top-flight, the Portsmouth legend is hoping to at least halt their progress when his Dorchester Town troops visit the Kingfield Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

The Magpies are themselves flying high following an unbeaten start to 2012, and they will no doubt draw encouragement from Woking’s recent run, which has seen them lose two of their last five league encounters.

Knight though, has played down the leaders’ dip in form, saying: “I try not to look at that to be honest.

“They have lost to Salisbury and Staines in the last month but against Salisbury they had their keeper sent off and that will have had a big bearing on the game, so you can’t read too much into those results.

“They beat Boreham Wood in their last game, who are no mugs, so although they may have had a little blip I’m sure Garry Hill has addressed that.

“They have only lost one game at home this season and they are 11 points clear at the top, so they are the best side in the league and it’ll be a tough old game for us.

“We will give them every respect but we want to give a good account of ourselves.”

Knight added: “Having had last weekend off we’re all looking forward to it.

“Woking have a lovely little stadium and they draw biggish crowds, which are always nice to play in front of.

“They are the champions-elect and these are the teams you want to play against. It’ll be a big test for us but we’re looking forward to it.”

Having sold both Ben Dickenson and Steve Devlin in the past fortnight, Dorchester have replenished their stock with the signings of Sam Malsom from Weymouth and Max Worsfold on loan from Aldershot.

However, it is unclear whether both men will make the starting XI for tomorrow’s clash.

Knight said: “We have got a bit of a selection headache but as the cliché goes it’s better to have that headache than not have enough players.

“We have options and we will make a decision nearer the time.

“We don’t have any injuries to my knowledge, the only thing that could be a problem is the weather. I just hope it doesn’t come in and spoil it for us. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

Overnight temperatures could reach minus three in the Surrey town.
