Knight: No quick decision on Wilson

By Adam Summers »

RICO Wilson’s uncertain future at the Avenue Stadium is unlikely to be resolved until after his sentencing on March 7.

The 20-year-old admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm at a court hearing last Thursday – a little under a year after being jailed for drug possession which led to the Magpies cancelling his contract.

The Dorchester Town hierarchy then handed the striker a second chance last summer following his release and since the start of this season he has gone some way to repaying their faith by netting eight goals in 19 appearances to become their current leading scorer.

However, his latest run-in with the law has caused the board to set up an internal inquiry, which boss Alan Knight expects will proceed for several weeks before a conclusion is reached.

He told Echosport: “It is something that is being dealt with internally but he is not up for sentencing until March 7 and we may have to wait until then to see where we go from there.

“Once we have got all the facts we will see what action needs to be taken.”

Dorchester were scheduled to travel to Blue Square Bet South leaders Woking on Saturday but like many other games across the country it was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

The cancellation means the Magpies will go into Saturday’s home clash against Chelmsford City having not seen competitive action since January 21.

And with another free weekend to follow on February 18, Knight is understandably concerned. He added: “Saturday’s postponement was obviously disappointing, particularly as it has been two weeks since we last played, but what you don’t want when you take on a team like Woking is for it to take place on an ice rink.

“Having claimed 10 points from our last four games, the last thing we wanted was a period like this because when you are playing well all you want to do is keep the momentum going.

“We won’t know just how much it is going to affect us until we face Chelmsford but the lads have been spot on since I have been here so hopefully we will be fine.

“All we can do is keep things fresh in training and try and keep the lads as motivated as possible.

“Phil Simkin and Mark Jermyn have been doing a great job in that regard and there is a chance we might get a friendly organised as well. If we can do that then we will.”

Town currently sit seventh in Blue Square Bet South, three points adrift of the play-offs having played more games than anyone else in the division.
