CIRENCESTER TOWN 6 MAGPIES 1

THE Magpies’ three-match winning streak came to a shuddering halt tonight as they were thumped 6-1 by a Nat Jarvis-inspired Cirencester Town at the Corinium Stadium.

Antigua and Barbuda international Jarvis took his league tally for the season to nine thanks to a four-goal haul in a little over 46 minutes against Graham Kemp’s men.

Jake Smeeton had levelled for Dorchester after Cardiff-born Jarvis had given the hosts an early lead, but Cirencester then ran riot with five unanswered strikes.

The visitors made two changes to the side that started the FA Cup win at Abingdon on Saturday, with Smeeton and Micky Hub-bard coming in for Callum Buck-ley and Dan Cann.

Searching for a second South-ern Premier Division victory on the bounce, the Magpies were rocked in the fourth minute when some clever play from Ed Williams ended with Jarvis making it 1-0.

However, Kemp’s charges equalised through Smeeton who headed in after a long throw by centre-back Chris Dillon.

But barely 10 minutes later and Dorchester were behind again.

Former Cardiff, Newport and Gloucester forward Jarvis was the quickest to react when the ball rebounded off the Dorchester crossbar.

And that man Jarvis was on the mark to complete a first-half hat-trick with half an hour on the clock. Ben Prictor’s left-wing cross found his team-mate and Jarvis guided a header over Alan Walker-Harris.

Trailing 3-1 at the break, Kemp made the decision to bring Cann on for Sam Lanahan and switch from a 4-5-1 to a 4-4-2 in an attempt to get back into the game.

But the Dorchester manager’s best laid plans went up in smoke almost immediately after the interval as Jarvis bagged his and Cirencester’s fourth.

And not only did that leave the Magpies with a mountain to climb but they also lost the services of Dillon, the defender injuring an ankle in the build up to the goal.

With Steve Walker on for Dillon, Dorchester went about trying to repair some of the damage caused by Jarvis.

However, Matt Liddiard lifted a shot over Walker-Harris to make it 5-1 on 66 minutes and then, 60 seconds later, Williams was rew-arded for an impressive performance with the Centurions’ sixth.
