WIMBORNE TOWN RES 1 DORCHESTER TOWN RES 2

GOALS from Sol Ayunga and Ryan Ross gave Simon Browne his first win in charge of Dorchester’s reserves, as the Magpies beat Wimborne 2-1 at Cuthbury in the John Stimpson Memorial Shield.

Ayunga gave the visitors the lead with a left-foot shot before Ross made the most of a defensive mix-up to double Dorchester’s advantage just before the break.

The hosts halved the deficit 10 minutes into the second period but Browne’s side did enough to win the tie.

“It was a good game,” said Browne. “We played some good football, especially in the first half, and at a higher tempo than last week.

“We created a few chances, scored some goals and looked more of a threat going forward.

“There is still plenty of work to be done and we’ve got to get to grips with the 3-5-2 formation.”

He added: “We were grateful to Shane Murphy for making a couple of good saves.

“I had Shane at Hamworthy two or three years ago and he has come on in leaps and bounds since then.

“I’m not sure what the situation is with him and the seven-day approach from Poole but it’s up to him to decide if he wants to stay and put pressure on Alan Walker-Harris.”

The reserves are in action again next Tuesday when they host AFC Portchester in the Wyvern Premier Division (7.45pm).
