DORCHESTER TOWN RES 11 WIMBORNE TOWN RES 1

DORCHESTER Reserves racked up double figures in their triumph over their Wimborne Town counterparts at the Avenue.

First-team regular Lewis Morgan bagged a first-half hat-trick for the home side along with goals from skipper Pete Taylor (2), Jason Brookes (2), Adam Linaker (2), Oakley Hanger and Sol Ayunga.

A goal from Charlie Bonnington came in response for the visitors but county town manager Simon Browne was pleased with the way his troops put in a professional display.

He told Echosport: “We’ve lost the last few games so it was nice to get back to winning ways.

“I had the luxury of having five of the first-team squad in the side and I was quite confident that we were going to get a positive result out of it. If we hadn’t, questions may have been asked.

“All I said to the guys was to go about it and do it in a professional way because it was clear from the first 15 minutes that we were probably going to dominate most of the game, which we did.

“It’s nice to win and win handsomely. The best thing about it was that in this mini league we are in with Wimborne and Romsey, it means that our goal difference is massive.

“We’ve got Romsey next week which is effectively the decider to get to the next stage now.

“I felt a little bit for Shane Murphy, who didn’t really have to do anything all night except for the one ball they did pump into the box. It dropped down to someone’s feet, who stuck a toe out and it trickled into the corner, so he didn’t get the clean sheet out of it.”

Portland United’s Linaker was named in the side on the night alongside Blues’ man Carl Mutch and Balti Sports’ Simon Proffitt on dual registration.

Explaining their inclusion, Browne added: “I am basically trying to build up a collection of about seven or eight players who I can dual register, who just have a little bit more experience than some of the youngsters.

“I can’t rely on having the likes of Lewis Morgan and Shane Murphy every week, sometimes we have struggled when we have put out a side which is full of 17 and 18-year-olds. That’s nothing against them but sometimes you just need a few older heads in there.

“I am not intending to flood the reserves with DPL or Wessex League players, it’s just to help the young lads out.”
