FROME TOWN 0 DORCHESTER TOWN 3

GOALS from Oakley Hanger, Jonah Ayunga and Liam Sayers ensured Dorchester Town got back to winning ways and came away from Frome Town with all three points.

The Magpies’ win at the Blindmans Brewery Stadium puts them within three points of the play-off places in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

Derby hero Franklyn Clarke was rewarded with a place in the county town side’s starting XI for the encounter, with manager Mark Jermyn dropping himself to the bench.

Ben Watson also returned in place of fellow striker Ayunga, who was named among the substitutes.

Frome, who sit 21st in the table, had shut out league leaders Poole Town on Boxing Day, with goalkeeper Darren Chitty producing a standout display to earn his side a point in a 0-0 draw with the Dolphins.

The last time Dorchester and Frome faced off it proved to be a frustrating evening for Jermyn’s men back in August, with the Magpies’ spurning a heap of chances in a goalless encounter at the Avenue.

And it was that man Clarke who had the first sighter on goal for the Magpies inside the opening 10 minutes, shooting just over after the visitors had survived an early corner.

Nathan Walker then tried to put his stamp on the action, flicking the ball on for Hanger, who fired wide.

Frome’s first real opportunity came on 18 minutes when Rob Hobbs saw his effort hacked off the line.

As the Robins began to find their feet, they then forced Dorchester keeper Alan Walker-Harris into making a fine save.

But it was the Magpies who struck first after 40 minutes. A low strike from Hanger catching out Chitty at his near post to put the county town club ahead.

Following the break, some confusion from the hosts ended up with the Magpies hitting a post as they went in search of a second.

Ayunga then replaced Watson, and it did not take the young striker much time to make an impact. On 67 minutes, he raced through and provided a neat finish from a tight angle to double his side’s lead.

Sayers was then introduced in place of Luke Holmes and joined the party on when his lofted effort found the net to make it three and put the contest to bed.
