POOLE TOWN 1

DORCHESTER TOWN 2

SECOND-HALF goals from David Jerrard and Jordan Storey gave Dorchester Town a 2-1 victory over Poole Town in a pre-season friendly at Tatnam.

The county town side, without manager Craig Laird who was on holiday for the encounter, gave game time to a vast number of the first-team squad under assistant-manager Trevor Senior and first-team coach Stuart Heath.

And, as well as a positive result, Senior was happy with what he saw from the squad on the night against National League South opposition.

He told Echosport: “We said before the game what minutes they were each going to get and what we wanted out of them and it couldn’t have worked better really.

“Everyone carried out their instructions and everybody contributed in a good all-round performance, against a strong side.”

The Dolphins took the lead on 25 minutes as Poole’s Luke Roberts put pressure on his defender, was played through and got his reward.

The ball ended up looping over Dorchester keeper Chris Weale in the Magpies’ goal after a deflection to make it 1-0 to the home side.

But following the break and, after making new fewer than six changes, Dorchester showed some promise.

Striker Phil Ormrod and youngster Dom Panesar-Dower both went close after a positive spell for the visitors.

Exeter loanee Storey also attempted to level things up but his effort at goal was saved by Dolphins’ keeper Nick Hutchings.

The goals did come for the visitors however and it was Jerrard who set the ball rolling. He headed in after good work from Ormrod, Tom Blair and Kyle Egan.

And Dorchester were not done there as Storey headed home the winner from a free-kick.

Senior added: “I think the positive thing to come out of it was that our changes didn’t weaken our side. The lads that came on just picked up the baton that we started off with.

“There were a lot of positives to come out of it. It wasn’t that someone was outstanding but everybody set really high standards and they used the minutes they were on the pitch very well.”
