DORCHESTER TOWN RESERVES 2
SALISBURY DEVELOPMENT 0
DORCHESTER Town Reserves reached the final of the John Stimpson Memorial Challenge Shield by downing in-form Salisbury Development 2-0 at the Avenue Stadium.
Ben Morris’ wonder strike, plus a clever Sol Ayunga free-kick, deliberately aimed through a parting in the Salisbury wall, sent the Magpies on their way to victory.
Speaking to Echosport, delighted boss Rich Robson admitted his coaching staff had devised a specific plan to beat the Lilywhites, who have a 100 per cent league record this season.
He said: “I’m chuffed and quite surprised. We did have a plan to try and nullify them, we knew what they had and what they’re like.
“We played in a style which we hadn’t played at all this year. They like to attack down the wings.
“We tried to make it so their full-backs couldn’t push on and the team really executed that, it was a really good defensive display.”
Morris handed the Magpies the lead when he lifted the ball over an onrushing defender’s head, before letting the ball bounce and volleying a scorching shot into the top corner.
Ayunga then doubled the advantage by spotting a hole in the Salisbury wall from a free-kick, giving visiting keeper Tom Roberts no chance.
Robson’s men play Gosport Borough in the final at Fawcetts Field, New Milton on Friday, May 4.
