DEAD ball specialist Ryan Hill grabbed a dramatic late equaliser to preserve Dorchester’s unbeaten home run and deny Woking a first win in five.

The county town full-back made the most of his return to the starting line-up by firing in a 30-yard free-kick with just two minutes to go at the Avenue Stadium.

And it was a bitter pill to swallow for the visiting Cards who thought they had done enough to secure victory when Nathaniel Pinney struck in the 83rd minute.

In the end both sides were forced to settle for a share of the Blue Square South spoils and it was the least the Magpies deserved.

Dorchester manager Ashley Vickers was forced to make two changes from the 2-0 win over Bishop’s Stortford the previous weekend.

Illness kept Gary Bowles out of the team and confined Ryan Moss to the role of substitute with Ryan Hill and Warren Byerley taking their places respectively.

Jules Emati-Emati was sidelined with an ankle injury so Sam Charles, who became available due to the postponement of Bridport’s clash with Westbury United, took his spot on the bench.

The Cards arrived in Dorset on the back of four straight defeats but it was they who recorded the first real attempt at goal.

Striker Pinney drifted across the edge of the Magpies’ penalty area before driving just wide of Regan Coward’s goal.

However, the hosts looked the more threatening in the opening exchanges and twice went close on the quarter hour.

First, Mark Jermyn forced an impressive stop from visiting keeper Ross Worner with a stinging volley from 20 yards before Steve Devlin put everything behind a 25-yard effort only to see it whistle past the left-hand post.

Matt Groves was the next Dorchester man to miss the target. Byerley crossed from the left, after Kyle Critchell did well to keep the ball in play, Jermyn nodded down but Groves could only hook wide of goal.

Woking soon grabbed a foothold in the game and the Magpies were almost made to pay for their missed opportunities as Sam Sloma looked set to volley his side in front on 33 minutes following a deep cross from Pinney.

However, Ryan Hill put his body on the line with a fantastic block, at the expense of a fruitless corner kick.

Sloma was denied once again just two minutes later, this time seeing his looping header palmed away by a retreating Coward.

At the other end, James Coutts dragged wide with Byerley unable to get a touch and divert the effort goalwards.

The final action of the half almost ended in embarrassment for the home gloveman. Luckily for the hosts, Pinney’s interception on Coward’s kick flew harmlessly over the top.

The away side started the more positive in the second half and should have gone in front within four minutes of the restart.

Sloma had Ryan Hill in a spin and his cross-cum-shot from eight yards just needed a touch, but Delano Sam-Yorke, with the goal gaping, failed to provide it.

Groves almost gained from a sloppy back pass in the 55th minute before Pinney forced Coward into action with a near post drive in the 63rd.

Dorchester created their best chance 19 minutes from the end, all thanks to a bursting drive from Jermyn.

The Magpies’ stalwart broke clear with a neat chip past the Woking defence and managed to cut the ball back before clattering into Worner.

However, after Jermyn did all the hard work, Groves fluffed the easy part and the Cards saw out the danger.

And the miss was made all the more crucial as Woking took the lead seven minutes from time.

Substitute Moses Ademola played in Pinney and the latter raced into the Magpies’ penalty area before firing past Coward and into the far corner.

One travelling fan chose to celebrate on the Avenue Stadium turf and he was subsequently evicted.

Vickers pushed skipper Kevin Hill further up the pitch in a bid to rescue a point. But it was the captain’s namesake Ryan who bagged a late leveller.

The hosts were awarded a free-kick some 30 yards out with only two minutes left on the clock.

Ryan Hill stepped up and left Worner with no chance as he found the bottom corner with deadly precision to send the home faithful into raptures.

There was still time for Sam-Yorke to head over from six yards with the goal at his mercy, ensuring the Magpies extended their impressive run on home soil to nine Blue Square South matches without defeat.
