Dorchester TOWN RESERVES 3
AFC TOTTON RESERVES 1
JAMIE Symes celebrated his new contract with a brace in Dorchester Town Reserves’ 3-1 win over AFC Totton.
The midfielder has signed a new deal at the Avenue Stadium, tying him to the county town club until May 2014.
And to mark the occasion, the teenager hit two goals as the Magpies’ second string recorded back-to-back wins in the Wyvern Premier League.
Manager Robbie Taylor, whose side sit fifth in the table, said: “It was a really good game and very enjoyable to watch.
“All the lads worked their socks off, they had a great attitude from the off and we could have been 2-0 up after five minutes.
“Alex Godfrey had a shot that hit both posts before going close with a header.
“The lads said the first shot went over the line but the linesman didn’t see it.
“Alex did eventually get the first goal and we moved on from there, playing some great football.
“We were 2-0 up at half-time and although they pulled one back to put us under a bit of pressure, once the third goal went in that was it.
“We had a few first-team players like Steve Devlin and Gary Bowles but again they gave their all, strengthening their argument for a return to the starting line-up.”
On the subject of Symes’ performance, Taylor added: “He had a very good game. Both of his goals were good finishes but they also came from great build-up play.”
The Magpies’ next match – at home to Christchurch – takes place on December 1.
Magpies: Floyd, Butcher, Kimber, Austin, Bowles, Symes, Bell, Devlin, Carlile (Twyford 80), Godfrey, Funnell. Subs not used: S Walker, Way, Beals, Brooks.
