Magpies' trialists on target as Dolphins sunk

TRIALISTS Aristotle de Carvalho and Jack Furzer both found the net as Dorchester Town Reserves defeated their Poole Town counterparts.

The former, who used to be on the books at Southampton, opened the scoring at the Avenue Stadium, only to see the visitors restore parity shortly before the interval.

The Magpies continued to plug away and they eventually got their reward when 19-year-old Furzer, who was released by Exeter City last month, grabbed what proved to be the winning goal.

Discussing the displays of Furzer and de Carvalho, nicknamed Totti, reserve-team boss Robbie Taylor said: “They both did very well.

“Jack looked very composed at the back and he is big for a young lad. Totti looked very sharp and although he’s not the biggest player he holds the ball up well and causes problems.”

On the game as a whole, which leaves the Magpies seventh in the Wyvern Premier League, Taylor added: “It was a good win against a decent Poole side. They were a quick and sharp outfit and it was a good test.

“A lot of the lads hadn’t played for a while, we had a couple of new faces in and in the first 10 to 15 minutes we looked a bit rusty and a bit anxious.

“But as the game went on the more we started to dominate. We also hit the woodwork three times so it could have been a bigger score.

“One thing I have noticed is that the lads are starting to approach games in a different way. They are a lot more disciplined and professional in terms of their focus and concentration.”

The reserves are in action again next Wednesday night when they play host to Christchurch (7.45pm).
