WIMBORNE TOWN RESERVES 2
DORCHESTER TOWN RESERVES 1
ROBBIE Taylor believes a recent lack of action ultimately led to the Magpies’ downfall at Cuthbury.
The county town reserves were playing only their second Wyvern Premier League match since mid-December as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at their Wimborne counterparts.
But with a much busier schedule on the horizon, starting with tomorrow’s visit of Fleet Town (7.45pm), boss Taylor is confident his side can build some momentum.
He said: “I wouldn’t say we played spectacularly well but no one played badly.
“We just didn’t have that spark about us. But maybe that was because the lads haven’t played for such a long time.
“Their goals came from a lack of concentration but again that could be because we haven’t played for a while as you tend to lose that bit of focus and momentum.
“It’s disappointing to lose but we’ve got things to work on.
“Saturday was the start of the second half of the season so hopefully we can now build some momentum again.”
Trialist striker Luke Sands grabbed what proved to be the Magpies’ consolation.
Taylor added: “Luke trained with the first team last Thursday and I got the call asking if we could give him a game in the reserves.
“It was a difficult game for him as it wasn’t a particularly flowing game, but I’m sure we will have another look at him.”
Perhaps the biggest disappointment for the county town chief came from sections of the travelling support.
He said: “We had three young lads on the bench and I wanted to get them on.
“Some comments were aimed at me from the supporting parents, criticising the changes I made when we weren’t losing.
“But that’s not what the reserve team is about. It’s a development side and we also have to give first-team players a game when they need it.
“It was disappointing to hear but I didn’t rise to it.”
Magpies: Jones, A Symes (Brooks 70), Butcher, S Walker, Way, Taylor, Beals (Bennett 75), J Symes, Godfrey, Carlile, Sands (Twyford 60). Sub not used: Floyd.
