Dorchester TOWN RESERVES 1

BASHLEY RESERVES 0

SUPER-SUB Alex Andrews grabbed the only goal of the game to hand Dorchester Town Reserves a deserved victory over their Bashley counterparts.

The pacey winger entered the fray as a second-half replacement and within five minutes of his arrival, the youngster fired the Magpies ahead.

The hosts missed a hatful of chances to put the game to bed but boss Robbie Taylor was delighted nonetheless.

He said: “It was a good game to watch and there was some great football played.

“We had quite a few out with injuries and illness, and we were rooting around to find enough players to field a side.

“We brought in a couple of the younger under-18 lads but they all did exceptionally well again.

“We totally dominated the game and Alan Walker-Harris didn’t have an awful lot to do in goal.

“It was a game where we created lots of chances but could not put them away. Having said that, it’s when you’re not creating anything that you find yourself with problems. As long as they are creating the chances the goals will come. I could not fault any of the players and what is so pleasing right now is we seem to have a real maturity about us and you forget how young some of the lads are.

“Dan Way was exceptional again, even though he isn’t used to playing at centre-back, and Steven Walker had the best game I have seen him play this season.

“The likes of Calvin Brooks, Alex Godfrey and Jack Twyford were also superb but they all were to be fair and it was just a great all-round performance.”

On the topic of match-winner Andrews, Taylor added: “Alex was dragged in at the last minute but he got on with it, he came on and he scored, and that’s the second time he has done that for us.

“He is really asking some questions now.”

The reserves are also at the Avenue Stadium next Wednesday when Newport (Isle of Wight) provide the opposition.
