AFC TOTTON RESERVES 0

Dorchester TOWN RESERVES 5

A LATE blitz saw Dorchester Town Reserves climb into second spot in the Wyvern Premier League.

The Testwood Stadium clash remained goalless with 20 minutes to go but once the Magpies got their noses in front, the floodgates opened and Robbie Taylor’s youngsters ran out 5-0 winners.

Alex Andrews bagged the first before Alex Godfrey and Dan Way both hit doubles.

The reserve-team boss, whose side end their campaign at home to fourth-placed Gosport on Wednesday night (7.45pm), said: “It all happened in the last 20 minutes.

“The rest of the match was quite uneventful to be honest. We didn’t create a lot of chances but we defended very well.

“We just seemed to fade when we pushed forward and we seemed to try and force it a little.

“There was also a lack of movement at times but the nicest thing about it was the patience we showed.

“We waited and waited and as soon as we got the first goal they caved in.

“Totton weren’t a bad side, they had (ex-Magpie) Ryan Hill playing for them and two good forwards. But we coped with them.

“We were without Steve Walker and Lloyd Beals through suspension and we lost three lads to the first team, so we did have quite a few changes.

“But it doesn’t really matter when we have players missing because the lads stepping in always do well. There is not a weak player in the squad.”

Taylor added: “It’s set up for quite a finish now and it’ll be quite a battle in the last game on Wednesday.

“If we win we should hopefully finish second while the worst case scenario is that we finish fourth. Even then that wouldn’t be a disaster.

“For me it’s not important where we finish, it’s just been so pleasing to see how much they have improved and grown since Christmas.”

The only downside to Saturday’s victory was an early injury to George Kimber.

Taylor said: “Unfortunately we lost George at the start after taking a nasty knock to the head.

“It wasn’t a nasty challenge but he was sent to casualty and he had a brain scan. Thankfully he has been given the all-clear but it was a worry.”

Magpies: Unsworth, Butcher, Brooks, S Buckler, M Buckler, Twyford, Gape (R Taylor 87), Way, Kimber (Vallier 2 (Turner 75)), Godfrey, Andrews.
