Green day for Magpies
9:30am Saturday 10th November 2012 in Club news By Adam Summers
TALENTED: Defender Dan Green, left, is closed down by former Magpie and Terra James Coutts
THE Magpies have added Danny Green to their ranks ahead of this afternoon’s FA Trophy clash at Didcot Town (3pm).
The talented right-back has agreed a deal until the end of the season and Phil Simkin reckons he has the potential to become a real fans’ favourite.
The Dorchester Town boss has also sealed the signature of former Magpie and Terras’ striker Warren Byerley.
Simkin said: “Danny has been playing at right-back for Truro City since the start of the season.
“He actually trained with us for a bit during pre-season when I was hoping to bring him in. However, Truro then came in with an offer and he decided to go in that direction instead.
“He is an exceptionally fit lad with an incredible engine, and as fit as Jamie Gleeson, and not only can he play at right- back but he can also play in midfield too.
“He is a little gem of a player for a club like ours and as long as all the paperwork goes through in time he should be available today.”
When asked whether the club’s incredible FA Cup run has helped fund the deal, Simkin added: “We would have signed Danny regardless of last Sunday’s result because he is only in his early twenties and is the future of the club.
“He is the type of player I can see going on to make 400 to 500 appearances.
“He has been training with us over the last couple of weeks and I am just delighted to have him on board.”
Meanwhile, Simkin is del-ighted to have sealed a deal with frontman Byerley.
Simkin said: “We’ve signed Warren but we have agreed for him to go out on loan to Poole Town for a month to improve his fitness.
Simkin said: “His season has been wrecked following the situation at Kettering and it is no good to him, or the club, to have him sat on the bench.
“I’ve spoken to Tom Killick at Poole and he has agreed to take Warren on for a month and hopefully he can score some goals there and come back fighting fit.
“Warren has done well for me over the years since he first signed for Dorchester 10 years ago and he is a great addition to the squad.”
* Chesterfield have signed Brighton and former Magpies’ winger Ben Dickenson on a one-month loan deal.
The 19-year-old, who is yet to make his Seagulls debut, goes straight into the Spireites squad for the trip to Bristol Rovers today.
