Simkin's silence
9:10am Wednesday 14th November 2012 in Club news By Adam Summers
TAKING THE PLAUDITS: Phil Simkin
PHIL Simkin surprisingly shunned Echosport following last night’s heavy defeat at struggling Havant & Waterlooville.
Happy to take all the plaudits for the club’s recent cup exploits, the Dorchester Town boss ignored several calls from the newspaper before finally refusing to comment on the 4-0 humbling.
The defeat was the Magpies’ fourth loss in their last five league games and it seems like the pressure is beginning to show.
Echosport had also hoped to get a reaction from Simkin concerning Luton Town’s FA Cup replay victory at Nuneaton, which will now see the Magpies visit Kenilworth Road in the second round on December 1.
Town, who now lie 13th in Blue Square Bet South, return to action on Saturday with a trip to Maidenhead United.

Time to realise (and i am a neutral who will pay to watch either of our local teams) Dorchester are in the 2nd Round of the FA Cup and if they win games in hand will be in play off places in Blue SQ South. Weymouth are languishing in a league lower. Yes it is always swings and roundabouts but please report accordingly and stop writing negative drivel!!

This is actually a shocking piece of journalism! i am from Weymouth but this is the most ridiculous article ever! What Phil Simkin and Shaun Hearn have acheived this year has saved that football club and why would a local paper be so biased in trying to create a news story out of nothing! They got stuffed, Phil didnt want to discuss it, move on! Im sure if Brendan King, who has presided over some shockers in 2012 had refused to comment the slant would have been on how he was justified to be too busy dealing with his team to speak to the echo. For what it's worth, Phil was more than happy to talk to the media after yesterday's game as can be witnessed by his interview with BBC Radio Solent yesterday night.
Perhaps its the quality and integrity of the journalist (now that Ky has left) that is the reason for Phil Simkin's lack of urgancy in speaking to the Echo?!

Take a bow Mr Simkin and all at the club. You have made some cash and can now stabilise the club. Mid table in the division would be a good result for a club with 300 regular fans. However if you could get the Plymouth numbers every week....... Then who knows.

I think we are all Missing the Point of what has been written. Even the most die hard Terras Fans will agree that the article is a waste of column inches. The paper have made a story to try and unsettle the manager of a local team. Surely there was a cake baking competition somewhere that would have been a better story!! They are copying the lead from the national press from reporters who have earnt respect and write about cutting edge stuff involving premier league football and managers on 7 figure salaries. The reality is does anyone give a **** that Dorchester got spanked at Havant. Its 1 game, No, Non league football is about Fairy Tales and Dorchester right now are enjoying one. 1 more win propels them to every clubs utopia. The 3rd Round Proper! The paper would be best served writing stories to galvanise public opinion not slating a guy who has given a lot of his adult life to a club whilst having to work at the same time. My nearest memory as a terras follower of cup success was when Weymouth were full time living way beyond their means with a full time manager. Take a bow Mr Simkin and all at the club. You have made some cash and can now stabilise the club. Mid table in the division would be a good result for a club with 300 regular fans. However if you could get the Plymouth numbers every week....... Then who knows.

And anyway Phil is doing a remarkable job on a shoe string budget, if we finish mid table, this would have been a succesfull season.

Not sustainable long term!
However agreed, journalism poor, simkin good, solid manager with massive integrity! Heath a great appointment, good bet for terras maybe at some point.
Valid points everywhere. Life is about opinions, I'm born and bred Weymouth but will be supporting the magpies and buying into their fa cup dream! Lets hope the club have provided such a great experience to people that the 300 regulars becomes 700!

I have to say I disagree with Shoe String Budget - must be £5k a week plus with all loanees! Which is way beyond the means of a club with 300 regular fans as mentioned earlier!

It's nice to see both sides of the ridge put aside club rivalry and both speak out about what is frankly a disgusting piece of journalism. You expect it from The Sun or the Mail.. but from a local paper that, I would like to think, would be doing all they can to promote the fortunes of both local clubs, alas no.

lifecoach wrote:Agreed, but its the kind of journalism which we have come to expect from the ECHO. A small local paper which constantly sensationalizes even the smallest story. The constant "Residents speak of shock as dog chases cat !!!" type journalism is tedious has turned what used to be a fairly readable paper into a trash tabloid wannabee. ECHO, employ some decent journalists, report in an honest and down to earth way and stop publishing your sensationalist and biased efforts.
