PHIL Simkin admitted he feared the worst when his Dorchester Town side threw away a two-goal lead against Bromley on Saturday before going on to claim a stunning win.

The Magpies appeared to be on course for a comfortable three points thanks to goals on debut for on-loan Torquay duo Nathan Craig and Ashley Yeoman.

But when the league leaders found parity with two goals just five minutes apart in the closing stages, Simkin thought there was only going to be one winner from that point on.

However, Jamie Gleeson popped up in the last minute of normal time to give Dorchester a stirring 3-2 victory, one which hauled them off the foot of the Skrill South table.

“We’ve been unlucky this season on many occasions when things have gone against us,” said Simkin.

“And at 2-2 I thought Bromley were going to nick it right at the death because teams that win things tend to do that.

“But Glees came up with that goal and, again, Charlie Losasso pulled something out of the bag to set it up.”

He continued: “I thought we deserved it. If Bromley had got anything out of that game it would have been a travesty.

“We did everything we planned to do and for once it worked. It just goes to show how the injection of a couple of players that are a bit of a level above can make a difference.”

There is still a long way for Dorchester to go if they want to escape the drop, but beating a side that still look like they will go on to lift the title should do wonders for morale.

“We needed to win here in front of our own people,” added Simkin.

“It gives us hope that we’re good enough to get out of this.

“Regardless of the conditions, to beat Bromley this season is some feat because most sides in the league couldn’t do it.

“I thought the two Torquay boys did really well and Nathan Craig looks a different class,”
