GRAHAM Kemp puts his unblemished record as Dorchester Town boss on the line tonight after a “perfect” Saturday in Oxfordshire.

The Magpies’ FA Cup victory over Abingdon United made it three from three under Kemp, whose men go to Cirencester Town in the Southern Premier Division this evening (7.45pm).

Jake Smeeton returns from suspension and Micky Hubbard is available after being cup-tied for Kemp’s first league fixture on the road.

While he has enjoyed a flawless start to his tenure in charge at the Avenue, Kemp is refusing to get carried away, especially with so many big matches coming up.

And one of those will be on October 11 when the Magpies host Ryman Premier Division outfit Hendon in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup.

“I enjoyed Saturday at Abingdon,” said Kemp ahead of today’s trip to the Corinium Stadium. “It was a perfect day for us.

“We got a win, some young lads had an opportunity to play and the supporters had a good day out.

“It has been a good start for me at the club but we’re taking nothing for granted because football always finds a way of kicking you in the teeth just when you think you’ve cracked it.

“Any midweek game away from home is always tough.

“The lads work all day and then set off for a game of football, and that presents its own challenge.”

Cirencester sit 13th in the league table, four places above the Magpies, and are unbeaten in their last six.

However, Dorchester are on a good run themselves and their upturn in results has come as no surprise to Kemp.

He added: “One of the things that convinced me to take the job was that I knew we had a good side.

“The team was there, it just maybe needed a fresh face and change of system.

“A fresh face can come in and change things slightly and the lads give a little bit more for a new manager.

“People like Dan Smith I like and I’ve got a lot of time for him.

“He has got lots of ability, is great going forward, and he’s playing with a smile on his face.”

Meanwhile, on his side’s next opponents in the cup, he continued: “Hendon will be a tough game but it’s nice to be at home.

“The first round proper is getting closer and it’s more exciting the further we get.

“The lads are excited by the draw but they know we’ve got a few big league games before then.”
