EVERYONE at Dorchester Town knows just how much an FA Cup run can do for a club, and they will all be hoping that some of the competition’s magic rubs off on the Magpies again tomorrow.

Ryman Premier Division side Hendon make the trip to the Avenue (3pm), standing in the way of Graham Kemp’s troops and a place in the final qualifying round later this month.

Kemp last night bolstered his squad ahead of the Hendon clash with the capture of former Southampton and Bolton midfielder Andy Robinson, 21, on non-contract terms.

And while a win for Dorchester tomorrow would bring with it a handy financial reward, it could also act as a much-needed morale boost following some below-par performances.

The FA Cup might have brought success for the club this term but assistant-manager Stuart Heath wants to see a major improvement after recent league displays which haven’t been up to the mark.

“Everyone knows how big Saturday’s game is, both financially and for the players in the dressing room,” he said.

“The players realised how poorly they played for 88 minutes against Bideford on Tuesday and we need to get back to the way we played against Dunstable.

“The intensity and work-rate needs to be better, and the body language needs to be more positive.

“We need to get on the front foot and impose ourselves on the opposition, and if we do that we should have the quality.

“We are playing a strong Ryman League team who will be a big test for us.

“It’s one we need to get into from the first whistle rather than waiting for the opposition to.

“The winner will come down to who plays closest to their potential.

“We know the potential we have in our squad and we know we can play better than we have been.

“Saturday is a case of playing with more intensity, energy and quality, and enjoying the cup for however long we are in it.”

Unfortunately for Kemp, he will be without captain Nathan Walker and Jamie Gleeson, who are both unavailable, while Matt Oldring, Ryan Murray and Micky Hubbard are all cup-tied.

However, Chris Dillon and Charlie Davis return after missing the midweek draw.

Commenting on the availability of players, Heath added: “It’s been a theme of our season.

“We’ve never really had consistency in selection, which at this level is pretty disappointing.

“We haven’t been able to get continuity in team or squad selection from one game to the next, and that is a problem.”

Dorchester, whose fans have fond memories of their famous cup defeat of Plymouth two years ago, face a side flying high in their own league.

Hendon striker Leon Smith could set a new club record if he scores, having found the net in his side’s eight previous games.
