DORCHESTER Town chairman Matt Lucas has voiced his delight at the level of support for converting the club to a Community Benefit Society (CBS).

A resounding 99.9 per cent of the votes cast by shareholders at the Magpies’ AGM on Thursday night were in favour of switching to the one member, one vote set-up.

Those holding 181,383 shares in the club voted for the conversion, while one person with 100 shares voted against.

“It was a very encouraging meeting and obviously the result of the vote was really positive,” said Lucas, pictured.

“I really feel now it’s time we all group together as one and work hard to improve our great club.

“For Dorchester Town to get bigger it needs us all working together, and what helps is that there won’t be groups of people but one club.

“And it’s great that Dorchester Town Youth FC will be able to come in and make the club their home.

“There’s a lot of work that needs to be done with meeting the CBS requirements set by the FA, but Thursday night gives us a pathway to move forward.”

Meanwhile, Lucas was formally appointed to the position of club chairman after the AGM, with Dave Martin installed as vice-chairman.

Lucas, who had originally taken over from Neal Butterworth on a temporary basis, said: “I love the club and I’m proud to be its chairman.

“I’m really pleased Dave is the vice-chairman as I feel we make a good team.”
