DORCHESTER Town are set to create a function room at the Avenue Stadium as they bid to bring in extra revenue to the club.

Plans are in place to develop the new facility at the back of the ground’s main stand, in an area which used to house the club’s boilers.

The installation of more modern and efficient boilers, part-funded by a Football Stadia Improvement Fund grant, is also likely to reduce energy costs.

“It’s no secret we want to make the club as available as we can on a daily basis,” said Magpies’ chairman Matt Lucas, pictured.

“We need to maximise the space we have and some of that is behind the main stand.

“You would be amazed by the amount of room there is at the back of the stand.

“We are looking to turn that into a function room which could be used during the week and at weekends.

“We certainly wouldn’t say no to anybody who feels they can help in any way with any roles at the club.

“For a club like ours with no one individual benefactor, the only way we can maximise our income is by improving the facilities and making sure the stadium can be accessed on a daily basis.

“The more money we bring in the bigger the playing budget can be.”

A new function room would allow the club to incorporate the existing boardroom within the lounge bar area, while there are also plans to accommodate a skittle alley.
