MARK Jermyn felt the Magpies’ three points at high-flying Hungerford on Saturday were richly deserved – but he has warned his players not to get carried away by such an important result.

Dorchester’s victory, which came courtesy of an own goal and a Nathan Walker strike, was Jermyn’s first as player-manager of the county town club.

But he knows that with a massive encounter against Arlesey tomorrow night, the squad will have to refocus as quickly as possible following the weekend’s success.

“The performance levels of every individual were brilliant on Saturday, and that’s what we want every week,” Jermyn told Echosport. “But the players cannot get carried away by one result.”

The Magpies had several good chances to make the 2-0 scoreline more emphatic, and Jermyn reckons the hosts couldn’t have argued if they had scored four or five.

“If people didn’t believe me when I said we played well the week before, they will sit up and believe me now,” he added.

“If they had gone in at half-time three or four down I don’t think they could have had any complaints.

“Maybe we were a bit fortunate with the own goal but from our point of view it came from pressure we were putting them under.

“We were putting in cross after cross and they were defending for their lives.

“Then we got our second before half-time and everyone knows what a great time that is to score.

“They had a long throw which put us under pressure in the second half but we held strong.

“They were unbeaten at home, so to go there and score twice shows the sort of players we’ve got.”

He continued: “We put Nathan Walker up front because we knew they were a strong team.

“Bradley Tarbuck came in and gave us that pace out wide we were looking for, as well as that extra bit of quality.

“What we worked on in training on Thursday really came to fruition, and it should have been more than 2-0.”

In winning, Dorchester moved out of the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division bottom three for the first time in months.

Meanwhile, Jermyn also confirmed to Echosport that Conference South outfit Gosport Borough had put in an approach for Walker, though the Magpies’ boss said he was keen to keep the defender-turned-striker at the Avenue.
