DORCHESTER Town can do something tomorrow that they have yet to achieve this season – win three league games in a row.

Victory at home against Cirencester Town (3pm) would also see the Magpies get revenge on the side that smashed them 6-1 in September.

That crushing defeat, which saw Nat Jarvis score four times for the Centurions, came after Graham Kemp had started his reign as county town boss with a hat-trick of wins – though two of those were in the FA Cup.

It has been a similarly positive start to his tenure as player-manager for Mark Jermyn, pictured, who was back at the Avenue on Tuesday for the first time since taking the top job with the Magpies.

“It was lovely to see some old faces on Tuesday and speak to people afterwards,” he said. “Someone I was talking to said it was like I hadn’t gone away, but it was still nice to come back.

“When you walk out and are surrounded by the stadium and the supporters it’s a great feeling.

“It’s a proper football stadium. For me, it’s the history of the club and a big part of our future.”

While his team’s performance in the midweek defeat of Arlesey may not have been quite as good as the ones at Hungerford last weekend or away to Truro before that, Jermyn is pleased to see the squad buying into the style of play he wants.

He added: “We want to play the majority of our football on the floor.

“People have seen over the last few games that we’ve gone with three at the back and we’re quite strong there.

“We’ve then got people who can work the flanks and get the ball to the strikers – it’s more of an attacking style of play.

“And I feel that with me, Jake Smeeton and Chris Dillon we are more than capable of dealing with what is thrown at us in defence.

“We have been holding a good shape and both Jamie Gleeson and Lewis Morgan are doing their jobs really well in midfield.

“It’s not necessarily going to be like that every week, it’s a work in progress.”

A key player for Jermyn so far has been Nathan Walker, pictured, a defender by trade who has been pushed forward in the last few games.

“It isn’t a case of putting him up front because he has played there before,” said Jermyn.

“We did it at Hungerford because of the size of their centre-backs and we had to deal with their strength.

“Nathan went toe-to-toe with them, did well, and scored. We hoped he would do the same thing on Tuesday and it went very well again.”

Cirencester’s form hasn’t been the most consistent, though they are just two points off the last play-off place in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.
