STUART Heath believes a combination of factors have got the Magpies into a position where they are going for a fifth win in seven league outings.

Dorchester take their impressive form to Dunstable Town tomorrow (3pm) in the hope of moving up another place in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

The county town side’s fortunes have changed markedly since Mark Jermyn took over as player-manager, and first-team coach Heath has given his thoughts on why he feels that has happened.

“It certainly helps when everyone is fit and available, and that has happened in the last few weeks,” he told Echosport.

“We’ve had a fairly clear approach of how we want to play and it’s just about giving the players direction and belief in what they can do.

“Sometimes players do need a fresh voice and Mark and Nick have provided that.

“The organisation and discipline of what we are doing has improved slightly, and the results speak for themselves.

“It’s also important to get the fans on side and the support at Frome on Wednesday was great.

“It was a big game with a lot at stake and the players delivered a quality performance.

“All 16 players contributed towards the result with a fantastic attitude and the win was well-deserved.”

The Magpies delivered another eye-catching performance during Wednesday’s 3-1 victory at Frome, and they face a side tomorrow that had six put past them by Hungerford last Saturday.

Matt Oldring came into the Dorchester starting line-up in Somerset and Heath says the defender sets an example for other squad members to follow.

“Mark has made it clear that everyone will get an opportunity if they have got the right mentality and attitude,” he added.

“Matt Oldring had to wait during the first few games of Mark’s regime but has got his chance and performed outstandingly.”

Dorchester have done over the last few weeks what they weren’t doing earlier in the campaign, taking points off the sides around them in the table.

Heath is understandbly pleased to see that happen and he is also keen for the Magpies to look at what teams higher up the league are doing.

“We wanted to get some momentum going and be ruthless in our performances, and not just for this season but going into the future as well,” he said.

“It’s about getting the consistency that teams at the top have because that’s where we want to be.

“We need to keep searching for that consistency if we want to get to a mid-table position and carry that on next season.

“Immediately after the Frome game, although everyone was pleased with the performance, we focused our attentions on Dunstable.

“Top teams like Poole never look beyond the next game and that’s our mentality going forward.

“Our ambition in the long term is to be a top-five side, though in the short term it’s to get safe.”

Dunstable beat Dorchester 2-1 back in October but have won once in their last seven matches.
