DORCHESTER boss Mark Jermyn believes Saturday’s sensational comeback against Dunstable Town owed a lot to his players’ strength of character.

Jermyn’s men turned a 3-1 deficit into a 5-3 victory at Creasey Park to register their fourth win in six under his management.

The Magpies were given a helping hand when the hosts were reduced to 10 men before half-time, but Jermyn feels that shouldn’t take anything away from his side’s fightback.

“It wasn’t the best start to a game we’ve made,” he said. “I’d said to the players before that we had to start quickly so it was unfortunate we didn’t do that.

“They scored in the first few minutes and although we pulled one back they played a shape we couldn’t cope with and had runners left, right and centre.

“We had to change things at 3-1 down so I moved up to midfield and brought Nathan back into defence.

“We got it back to 3-2 and they had a man sent off before half-time, which ultimately did us a favour, but it’s still no mean feat to come from 3-1 down and win 5-3 away from home.

“Losing a player can sometimes galvanise a team and they were still winning at that point, and they also have some of the better players in the league.

“It did have an impact on the result but we had to show our strength of character to take advantage of the situation.

“We had to regroup at half-time and think about what we were going to do in the second half.

“We then had to put that into practice and once we got level I felt there was only one team that was going to win it.”

Commenting further on the tactical change at 3-1 down, he added: “Some people felt that earlier in the season the team would have kept doing the same thing and they may not have changed it.

“Pulling Nathan back and me going into midfield gave us a little bit more strength in defence and resilience in the middle.

“It was no fault of the lads that had to change positions as a result, we were just getting overrun in the middle of the park.

“We changed it and it worked well.”

Meanwhile, Jermyn confirmed that Lewis Morgan sat out Saturday’s game because of a groin strain sustained at Frome last Wednesday.
