CHAIRMAN Matt Lucas summed up Dorchester’s campaign as one of frustration following their defeat of Slough – but he can see positive signs for the future.

The Magpies ended their Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division campaign in 17th place, 13 points clear of relegation, which had looked a possibility before boss Mark Jermyn arrived in January.

And given their form under Jermyn, Lucas is disappointed that the season has come to an end now.

“It has been a frustrating season in many respects,” he said. “On the playing side of things, I think the season has come to an end at the wrong time.

“Looking at the season as a whole, we did have a good FA Cup run but there have been a lot of changes at the club which has made things difficult.

“But how we’ve been playing lately gives the supporters hope for next season.”

Lucas thanked the fans and sponsors for their support during a testing campaign, while he also paid tribute to outgoing secretary Dave Martin and general manager Keith Kellaway.

Meanwhile, Chris Dillon claimed three gongs at the Magpies’ end of term awards, while Jake Smeeton picked up the players’ player of the season accolade and Dinky Curtis Memorial Cup.

Other playing awards went to Jason Brookes, Brandon Huckstepp, David Jerrard and Josh Lucas.
