SAM Lanahan has expressed his affection for Dorchester Town and told Echosport that he is assessing his future in football after it was announced the midfielder would not be at the club next season.

Lanahan, who joined the Magpies from Hamworthy United in November 2013, took to social media earlier this month to reveal his stay with the county town outfit had come to an end.

A few clubs have shown an interest in Lanahan but he is currently weighing up his options given the new teaching role he starts in Salisbury this September.

The commuting involved with that and the changes to his career outside of the game in general contributed to his decision to leave Dorchester.

“It would not be ideal to commute to Salisbury from Poole and then have to get to Dorchester,” said the 23-year-old.

“If I’m starting work at 8am and coming back from Redditch on a Tuesday night then it would be difficult.

“I would like to have stayed at Dorchester but it was in the club’s hands and nothing happened.

“I enjoyed my time there and I love the club, it’s just unfortunate the way things have gone.

“I’ve got a lot of time for everyone at the club and the lads were great, it’s a shame I had to leave.”

On finding another club, he added: “I want to keep playing but with work I’m going to see what my options are.

“I’ve spoken to a few clubs who have shown an interest.”

Meanwhile, Dorchester last night beat Bridport 1-0 in a friendly at St Mary’s Field thanks to a late goal from substitute Jonah Ayunga.

The Magpies host Yeovil Town Under-18s tomorrow (7.45pm).
