BOSS Mark Jermyn insists Dorchester have what it takes to go to Cirencester tomorrow night and do what they couldn’t quite manage at the Avenue on Saturday.

The Magpies and Centurions must meet again to determine who goes through to the FA Cup second qualifying round following a 1-1 draw in the county town.

Dorchester player-manager Jermyn felt his side lost their rhythm when the visitors’ Charlie Griffin scored from the spot to cancel out home skipper Jake Smeeton’s opening goal.

And the hosts weren’t helped by the second-half sending off of striker Jonah Ayunga for two bookable offences.

However, Jermyn is confident his players can get the job done when the teams lock horns again in the replay at the Corinium Stadium.

“I believe we’ve got enough ability in our squad to go there and do it the hard way,” he said.

“It’s not an easy place to go, and they are doing quite well in the league, so we will show them the respect they deserve.

“We’ll be looking for the same start we made on Saturday but to then carry that through the whole game.”

On the weekend’s performance, he added: “The way we started should have been enough to carry us through.

“Our passing was very good, we moved the ball well, opened them up on several occasions and got a goal from it.

“It was one-way traffic in the first 35 minutes but as soon as the penalty was given I felt it unsettled us and we lost our rhythm.

“I don’t believe we had the same drive that we had in our previous two games.

“The penalty gave them a lift because at times they looked down and out and were struggling to cope with our overlapping players.”

Jermyn had no qualms about the award of the penalty, however, that couldn’t be said for a number of other decisions made by Bristol referee Simon Knapp.

“Both teams were frustrated with the decisions that were made,” said the Magpies’ chief.

“I don’t usually have too much to say on referees, I really don’t, but I was amazed at some of the decisions that were given, certainly some of the bookings.

“I don’t know how you can lose that much control of a game when there wasn’t a bad tackle in it.”

Chris Dillon (groin) had to sit out Saturday’s tie and will be assessed before tomorrow’s replay.

Charlie Davis came off with a tight hamstring but is set to travel for the game, while Ayunga is available despite his red card.

And it had been such a positive start to Saturday for the youngster after it was revealed that he had signed an extension to his current contract.

“Jonah has signed an extension through to the end of next season,” said Jermyn.

“I think we’d be silly not to reward somebody who has done so well and shown so much potential.

“We really wanted to show our appreciation to Jonah.”
