GOSPORT Borough’s achievement of reaching the FA Trophy final last year can act as inspiration for teams like Dorchester, according to Mark Jermyn.

The county town boss saw former Avenue team-mate Jamie Brown lead out Gosport at Wembley having beaten the Magpies en route.

Borough lost 4-0 that day but just them getting to the final makes Jermyn think that teams like his could possibly do the same.

Dorchester host Chippenham Town in the first qualifying round tomorrow (3pm), two months after the Wiltshire outfit beat Jermyn’s men 3-1 in the league.

“We played Chippenham away and know their qualities, and they have got a lot, but again it’s how we set up and take the game to them,” said the Magpies’ player-manager.

“Given recent weeks in the league, we can take a break from it and have a real go.

“We’ve had some tough draws in the cups and haven’t had a run since I’ve been back.

“I think it will be a good experience for some of the players, just to get a good cup run, and it’s something I’m keen for too.

“I watched Jamie Brown get to the final with Gosport and yes, they had a decent side, but it proves if you can get a run together you never know where you might end up.”

The Magpies will take on a Dorset Army XI in a friendly at the Avenue on Wednesday, November 11 (7.30pm).
