DORCHESTER Town star Jonah Ayunga has reflected on his exciting journey as part of the Magpies’ squad.

The talented young striker, set to face Bedworth United this afternoon (3pm), has become a big hit at the Avenue since making the switch from Bridport Youth this summer.

And although he believes the move has been a stern test, the frontman insists he is loving his time as part of the Dorchester ranks.

Explaining how he came to join up with Mark Jermyn’s men, Ayunga told Echosport: “I knew someone who was already with the side in Sam Old so I just got in contact with him and went to pre-season.

“The first session was a step up from what I had been playing at Bridport. I just had to try and get used to the pace but the lads were all nice so it wasn’t hard.

“I didn’t think I played overly well in pre-season and thought I would be starting on the bench, but it’s obviously gone a bit better than that.”

A figurehead in the Magpies’ attack this term, Ayunga admits he has been surprised by how well he has adapted to life in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

He added: “I represented Dorset for a couple of years so I knew I could go a bit higher than I was at Bridport, but it’s gone better than I thought it would.

“From county level I would say it was still a big step up because of the physicality.”

Ayunga also believes the unity in the Dorchester squad under player-manager Jermyn has aided his transition to senior football.

“It’s the best dressing room I’ve been in. There is no hostility, whining or anything, everyone gets along,” he added.

“All the boys love each other and we all look forward to coming to football every time we are in training or at a game. Even the away journeys aren’t too bad.

“The staff at Dorchester are prepared to put out young players and see how it goes. At other clubs they might not have got so much game time. The club has treated me very well since I have come over.”
